Do more. Stay busy. Do well. Get it right. Accomplish, and don’t look back.
For decades, I carried this mantra within me and worshiped the parts of me that reinforced its exitance. I placed these over-productive and perfectionist parts on a pedestal and made all the necessary sacrifices without asking the deeper questions. And I did well. I got to places.
The problem with this mantra is that there is no endpoint.
One achievement blends into another, and momentary busyness morphs into the status quo just to keep up. All in while, my body was “keeping the score” of the pressure and mental exhaustion I carried. Not long after, life throw me a couple of curve balls that overwhelmed my inner resources. So I had to pause and ask myself the deeper questions.
Why keep so busy? Why the need to accomplish? Why isn’t’ it ever enough?
I began to answer these questions in my personal healing journey. I had to make big and small changes. I had to let go of old habits that had kept me safe for decades and to push back against my inner critics. I had to learn to savour every inch of growth and hold space for my shortcomings with compassion and care. Through my personal journey and my work as a therapist, I've discovered the profound resilience of the human spirit and the transformative potential of our nervous system.
We are human, so we are complex by nature. We are whole and in pieces all at once. Together, we can navigate the shadows of trauma and pain, uncovering inner strength and reclaiming a sense of peace within.
Another Sliver Of Me…
Forging Connections through A Shared Meal. It is a survival behavior for mammals to feed their cubs, but sharing food with peers and extended family is a feature of human evolution. For me, it is a deeply meaningful experience connected to sense of belonging and love. As I prepare and blend the ingredients, I express my creativity, cultural heritage, and love for others through the dishes I serve. From exchanging recipes to savouring homemade dishes and engaging in lively conversations, every exchange becomes a cherished opportunity to strengthen bonds and celebrate the simple, yet most valuable joys of life.
Living Embodied through Adventure Seeking. Checkbox destinations, mindless Instagram pictures and disembodied existence. It seems like we’ve strayed away from savouring the nourishments that traveling and moving through this world offers. I have come to look for adventure both at home and across continents. I use this body I own to help me immerse myself into different cultures, landscapes, and ways of life. Whether cleansing my lungs with Mother Nature’s cool breeze, strolling along bustling city streets, or savoring exotic flavors, every adventure – small or big – is an opportunity to awaken my bodily senses, feel the beauty that expands my consciousness and move towards interconnectedness with other souls.
